Attention all Superheroes, Villains, Mermaids and Princesses... Please come out and play with us!1/28/2016 Snack: Pirate Booty & Gogurt Book: The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone Today 10 children wanted to start in dramatic play, with the characters made over the past week, and after a brief reflection about what we still needed they set their stage. One group started creating "Mermaidville" complete with an ocean and sand area They also included seashells, sea creatures, and a boat for transportation. The children that created the cat characters set up a "Cozy Cat Land" with food, phones and blankets. The Superheroes were making a "Super Momville and Super Babyville" with dolls, bottles, and clothes. The Ice Princesses were traveling with the Superheroes and spread some snowflakes around the lands. The Villains made sure that they were equipt with their powers and near the areas they wanted to destroy or take captive. All the Villains were flying high above the lands and lairs. Finally, there was a car "Suburban" with plenty of seats, set off to the side, for all characters to use to get through the lands! Suzette's Grandma read to us. Many children returned to their work on superhero characters for dramatic play. Some helped each other paint, while others added glitter and labeled the characters. Our characters so far include: Cat Girl Lucy, Cat Girl Izzy, Super Mom, Dr. Morocco, The Joker, Princess Sigrid, Lauren Cat Girl, Ice Princess, and Ice Girl. More to come next week. (We ran out of paper today so some children signed up to work on new characters on Monday) A group of children in blocks & ramps found some inspiration in a book. They found a picture of a ramp made by some other children and they decided to try to rebuild it. They didn't quite finish it, so it was saved to come back to on Monday.
Snack: Pirate Booty and Oranges Book: There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow by Lucille Colander We have played many things in dramatic play this year, but something new has been bubbling up and many children want to play superheros or princesses with villains. Some children have said that could be dangerous and wondered how we could get rid of the villains without really hurting someone. A small group of children came up with an idea to make characters and hang them on the wall, in place of pretending they were villains. Several children began making these on Tuesday and the work continued today. It has blossomed into not just villains, but other characters that they want in their play. There was also a sharing at morning meeting with the whole group and we took a walk around the space to see their work in progress. What makes a bad guy or girl or a villain? & What makes a superhero a good guy or girl? Jack: If he steals something. Eloise: We can know if they write that on the bad guy. Brady: If he destroys someone. Jack: If he springs on the on someone Izzy: If he knows he's a bad guy we can call the police. I will be the police. Morgan: I want to be a good guy. Hattie: I made Squirrel Girl and she is a villain. She can knock down houses with her mouth. Carly: I made Super Mom. She saves us all! Ellie: I made an Ice Girl for when we are playing Castle.
