![]() Book: Give That Back, Jack! Snack: Nilla Wafers & carrots What a great day for a walk! We walked (all uphill) to the Family Center on Gay Avenue. ![]() Book: Pete The Cat and His Magic Sunglasses Snack: Rainbow Goldfish and Cucumbers We started our morning with a walk to Tree Top Playground! When we returned from the park, we opened the doors to the outside classroom as a choice for small group time. A group of children became interested in making "cookies" and their plans inspired new ideas and materials for their outdoor play.
Zoe: We're making cookies, but we don't have an oven like inside. Ellie: We could maybe ask to bring the oven outside. Could we Katie? Sometimes when we need something we can just ask to go get it. Katie: That would be okay with me. I wonder if you might need anything else? It sounds like you might be coming up with a plan for play. Brady: We could really use a table and chairs. Let's go look. Katie will you help us move the really big things we need? Katie: I can do that and thank you for asking. Ellie: So what we have is a plan. It's a plan to bring some dramatic play outside. But, could we put it by the sandbox and the tunnel? Brady: Why? Is it because that's a messy place? Hattie: So is the mud kitchen. The mud is gross and we don't want it on toys from inside! Katie: I wonder if your plans have changed? Ellie: Well, we could use the real house like a house and then the dramatic play items wouldn't be near the messy sand and mud. Brady: It's like our shoes. When we go inside, we don't want to bring the messy mud into our classroom. So, maybe the toys are the same thing. Lucy: Do we really get to go inside and bring some things outside? Ellie: Yes, we made an agreement and have a plan. Lucy: Okay! Sigrid: We need more food. Izzy: Wow, I like to do this and how about a phone? Sigrid: We need a pool in our backyard! It will need a diving board too. But be careful so you don't break your legs! Harlow: I can help. ![]() Book: Let's Play! Snack: Carrots, Clementines, and Goldfish Let's play... inside, outside, with chalk, glue, glitter, water, paint, clay, puppets, and with each other!
When we were outside, several children experimented with mixing water, chalk, and glitter glue. In the studio, they made plans to paint in similar fashions, by covering all the white or sharing the easel paper and blending their designs. There was also a group of children making clay bowls, by listening to molding techniques from a friend who had made one in the past. The boys were playing in dramatic play and used their bodies, instruments, and puppets to create a story about a dinosaur who didn't like marshmallows. There were many different types of play happening today and the children were often working with each other to create and share ideas. They wondered, asked questions of each other, shared their experiences and tested out their ideas. Snack: Pirate Booty and Strawberry Applesauce Book: Yoohoo Ladybug Tara, our music educator, came to sing with the children. She brought shakers and scarves to explore music in different ways. Songs sang, included: Sing Hello Today Two Little Black Birds Hey Lolly, Lolly Una Gotta I'm Hiding Snack: Pirate Booty, Carrots, Popsicles, and Goldfish Book: Green Eggs and Ham Harry celebrated his 5th birthday today! His mom and dad, Sophie and Will, read to the class and shared some of Harry's special items. Harry's Birthday Interview I am five. I like Star Wars and superheroes. My favorite color is fire red. My favorite song is Turn Down for What. My favorite book is any Star Wars books. My favorite Transformer is Megatron. My favorite toy is my Autobot. My wish for my birthday is get a double lightsaber and Darth Maul. I like to learn about dinosaurs in the Dino Movie. ![]() Snack: peppers, grapes, tomatoes, lettuce (from our garden), and goldfish crackers Book: Are You Ready to Play Outside? There was lots of gardening and tasting happening today! We harvested some of our lettuce, transplanted growing beans into take-home containers, planted some seeds from our snack time, and created a garden in our sensory table. Book: Have You Filled a Bucket Today? Snack: goldfish, string cheese, clementines & apple slices We took advantage of the dark cloudy day and added a night sky and flashlights to our tent camping in Dramatic Play. Dark pieces of material were added to make the tent even darker and marshmallows were roasted over the campfire! Many children worked on Birthday messages for Julie. Today is her birthday. Since she took the day off, we will present them to her tomorrow.
Snack: Pirate Booty, String Cheese, and Raisins Book: Parachute This morning we brought two baseball tees to the baseball fields. Some children decided to play on the little playground and others ran the bases and practiced hitting the ball off of the batting tee. Children noticed a few friends were out sick today. We told the children, "Today was Harry's birthday and how can we tell him happy birthday?"
Suzette: Write him a note. Katie S.: We can make him a movie telling him "Happy Birthday!" Morgan: We can say it in the wind and it will get to him. Harlow: We can write a note and send it in the wind. Camera Katie brought children into the office in small groups to record children's well wishes for Harry. Book: Mud Snack: grapes, carrots & vanilla wafers Our new mud kitchen was put together this weekend. The children were excited to explore the space this morning! We ended the morning singing, using rhythm sticks and dancing with Tara. We pretended the parachute was the "bathtub" for our song about "Tiny Tim".
