Snack: cheese cubes, crackers and mandarin oranges Book: Tippy Tippy Tippy Hide! Half of the class went for a walk to Shaw Park today to see what they could see. They took i-pads and cameras to take picture of the things that they noticed along the way. While looking up from a garden in the park, they noticed some of tall buildings at the edge of downtown Clayton. Children commented on the clouds that they could see in the building's windows. Jack said "They're reflexible, you know like a mirror!" We are learning such juicy new vocabulary words today.

It was important to Carly to have her whole family come to school to help celebrate her birthday! Since her "real" birthday was Wednesday (our snow day) and she was so disappointed not to come to school that day!! So she brought Doroda, Sammy, Dad, Mom and Grandma today. She shared a baby book, a favorite snuggie that she sleeps with every night and her Mom read a special story that she got when she was a little girl. Happy Birthday Carly!
Snack: Cheese Its and Gogurt Book: Snow Day for Mouse by Judy Cox We have started a new collaboration with Hannah Niehoff's CHS science class. On Tuesday, several children visited the greenhouse with these science students. While there they observed other plants and started planting some seeds together. Today, the science students came to visit us and together we made signs, labels, looked at photos of plants, and again planted some seeds. This will be an exciting project and collaboration this semester! Snack: Cherries and Popcorn Book: If I Built A Car Today, we celebrated Sigrid's half birthday and she turned 5 1/2! Her mom, Chris, joined us to share some of her favorite items and pictures of her family. Sigrid's Birthday Interview I like chocolate cake. My favorite pony is Twilight Sparkle. My favorite area to play in the classroom is the message center. My favorite color is purple. I like horses. I like to draw princesses and unicorns. My favorite book is Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? Hattie's Grandma, Bertie, read us this favorite book from home that Hattie's mom had to search really hard to find! Some children said they knew this book and some said that got it from the library. Here are some old and new provocations offered to children today. Look and see how they worked with these materials.
Book: We Forgot Brock! Snack: Nilla Wafers & applesauce Today we played with the wind... Let out toes touch the sand... Pretended to be different people & animals... Planted lettuce... And remembered some of our favorite games! We had some conversations about the weather. We wondered; How could it feel so warm in the winter? Some children asked: So, when is water day?
The teachers wondered: What will it feel like outside next week? How does it feel for young children to have 70 degree temperatures this week and then go back to 40 degrees next week? How are the children learning to define winter in St. Louis? Snack: Smoothies, Goldfish Crackers and Vege Stix Book: The Story of Lily written and illustrated by her parents Today we celebrated Lily's 5th Birthday! Lily shared some special things from when she was a baby, like her cookie monster and a baby dress. Her parents read her baby story book to us too. The final thing she shared was one of her favorite toys, her Rainbow Dash My Little Pony. Snack: Veggie Straws and Applesauce Book: Ribbit! The first group began by exploring music with their body and slowly moved to exploring music and movement as animals. As they became more comfortable moving as animals, Renita and Roxane noticed they saw a story and they asked the children which animals they were. Lucy: A raccoon. Birk: Zorg (a poweranger). Eloise: A raccoon. Mia: Bunny. Jack: Baby cheetah. Izzy: Mama cheetah. Harlow: Bunny. Brady: Baby cheetah. The children then created... This story takes place in the jungle. The mama cheetah was hunting for food, the bunnies were hopping, and the baby cheetahs were playing with toys. The raccoons were also looking for some food and the Zorg was fighting bad guys. Then after eating the raccoons rested, but the rabbits and baby cheetahs were hungry. The bunnies ate carrots and baby cheetahs were hungry for meat. It started raining! The bunnies and raccoons ran for cover where they heard a river. At the river, the cheetahs drank the water. The baby cheetahs fell in, but the Zorg saved them. The sun came out and the animal came back together. Renita and Roxane read the book, My Many Colored Days to the second group. First, they read the book and identified the colors and the emotions associated witheach color. Second, they reread the book and the children acted each animal out in the book. Snack: Cheese Its and Pirate Booty Book: The Story of Birk by Alison Hoette Happy 5th Birthday Birk! We also celebrated Valentine's Day, by making special deliveries at drop off time today! |
