Snack: Popcorn and Oranges Book: Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae
After our story, two CHS video production and journalism students came into our room to interview children for a Greyhound Exclusive Television segment (the morning show for CHS). Their names were Katie and Julia. They asked the children questions about love and what it meant. We ended our morning sharing a visit with Roxane and Renita, from Metro Theater. The children were able to explore emotion, through voice and body, and pretend to be animals. Renita read us the story Tippy, Tippy, Pat, by Candace Fleming and invited the children to pretend to act out the feelings of the farmer in the book. The farmer was so frustrated and sad, because the little bunnies kept munching on his carrots! He built many structures to keep them out, but in the end he shares the carrots and that made him happy.
Snack: Star Wars Grahams, applesauce & clementines Book: Cookies Week Lucy's mom joined us this morning to help celebrate Lucy's 5 1/2 birthday. She read lots of books to us and Lucy brought a photo of herself when she was a baby. Lucy also shared some favorite things from home.
We gave her a card filled with birthday messages at morning meeting. Happy Birthday Lucy! Book: Pout Pout Fish Snack: Nilla Wafers, Cheese Sticks, and Raspberries What is love? Lucy: Hearts mean love and snuggles. Suzette: Love makes me think of family. Hattie: Family is my love. Morgan: My daddy. Izzy: Love makes me want to hug my parents. Jack: Valentines make you love each other. Carly: Hugs Lily: Love is making snuggle faces with each other and when you really like someone. Theertha: When my mom gives me kisses and hugs and when daddy does and when I do for grandma and my baby. Birk: When I get to go places, like Target. Getting things is love and Valentine's is also my birthday. Eloise: Love is hugging my mommy and she loves hugs. Brady: Love is going on a boat with my family and playing together. Harry: Love is when I get to go to the pool. Ellie: Love is morning snuggles while watching the news and my lovie, my mom, brother and dad. snack: popcorn & strawberries Book: We Forgot Brock Ellie and Suzette returned to the castle they built on Monday. They added the background they painted for it at the easel. They created a story about the castle. The Tale of the Panda Family "The panda family was inside their castle. There was a storm and after, the pandas jumped in the puddles. Then they slept and the other day they walked to their other friend's house. Then they played tag outside on the playground. They had a snack, some bamboo. They picked flowers for their mommy. They went in the car to Mimi and Papa's pool for a swim. They left Mimi and Papa's house and drove to soccer. They kicked the ball and won the game. Then they went to their puppy friends. Then they went to the zoo. At the zoo, they went on the train and it was over." During morning meeting we looked at the ramp Lauren & Lucy built and saved from Monday. Some of the children had questions for them about their ramp which inspired them to look at the book again and make some changes. Eloise and Zoe were inspired by the ramp book as well and they joined the team of ramp builders today.
Snack: Vanilla Wafers and Strawberries Book: What Do You Do With An Idea? Metro Theater continued their work with the children by exploring emotions through words and actions. After, children became rabbits to practice their emotions. The rabbits even dug for carrots!! Children wanted to continue looking for carrots, but our time with Metro Theater was over. We took the work with Metro Theater into small group time to continue collecting carrots. They created a basket of carrots in the message center for next week's experience. ![]() Book: Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty Snack: blueberries and pretzels Before starting to work on their block castle today, Suzette, Zoe and Ellie painted images for a backdrop. Zoe said "I made it so that other people might like it. Tomorrow I'm gonna finish it and take back to blocks, for something I'm still building." Ramps After Lucy and Lauren added some blocks to a ramp creation, they began to study it more closely. They looked in books for similar ramp images and they made drawings of their ramp structure. Once they finished that, they compared them all, which lead to more ideas of how to change it. |
