Book: The Recess Queen Snack; Pirate Booty & strawberries We played the person to person game, danced and moved our bodies through the space and ended our time with Roxanne & Renita with a puppet show! We enjoyed learning about bringing stories to life in new ways. We can't wait to see how the children's play is influenced by these experiences!
Harlow's mom, Nicole, read an Amelia Bedelia book to the children. Snack: Cheese, Grapes, and Teddy Grahams During our small group time, children were given the choice to go outside. What started as a small group of three children, grew rapidly when the sun came out. Eventually, all the children were outside playing in all areas of our outdoor classroom. In the mud kitchen, children made soupy cakes. In the sand area, they worked on creating the bricks of a castle. Some children asked to roll the wheels down the hill and that could not have been more fun! Look below at the joyful things that happened today: Book: Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni Snack: Cheese Its, Cheese, and Applesauce While the children are playing, teachers often observe and document their play. We look for connections to other learning, document language, and use open-ended questions to extend their experiences. As their play unfolds, stories often begin to develop. We might invite them to consider sharing their story with others. When they are ready, they often do this by making a book at the message center. Today several children were playing, in our outdoor classroom, near the wooden house, pretending to be animals, transformers, and babies. They were also using ideas from previous experiences and knowledge from some studio experiences. In the studio, several children made rocket ships from recycled materials and loose parts. In the outdoor classroom, they used crates and natural materials to replicate those same ideas. While the children played, there were several different stories happening. The stories all shared some components and were about transforming, animals, and friends. Three players visited the message center today and put their outdoor stories into a book. Brady's Story Ellie's Story Lauren's Story Book: Oh No! Snack: Cheddar Puffs and Blueberries Snack: Pirate Booty and Raisins Book: The Dead Bird Blocks and Legos Children have been building with legos and yesterday afternoon Birk and Brady created a road for the legos to be placed on. During morning meeting, the children talked about what they could add to the road for their lego creations. In block construction, Birk, Brady, Jack, and Morgan brought their lego creations to the to the road and built homes for their legos. Dramatic Play Children prepared part of dramatic play for a wedding. They took time to create signs for more characters in their wedding. It took a while to find a flower girl!
Book: Leonardo The Terrible Monster Snack: Go-gurt, Cheese Sticks, and Pirate Booty Group One Last week, Renita and Roxane brought white socks for children to create animal puppets. Children chose and created different animals. During our Metro Theater experience, we were joined by each child's puppet, including: a rhino, horse, dog, sea turtle, pony, dog, unicorn, and a bird. They acted out different emotions with their puppet (happy, sad, angry, etc.) Then, the children used their puppets in a puppet show. Half of the group were in the puppet show and the other half were in the orchestra playing musical instrument. The orchestra helped tell the story through sound. Group TwoThe children read the book Quick As A Cricket. The identified the different animals in the book and their quality of movement. They reread the book and brought the animals to life by acting each animal out.
