This week several children started to explore book-making in the Message Center. Ellie offered to share hers with the whole class today. She sat on a special stool, during Morning Meeting, and read her book aloud to the class. The children noticed several things before, during and after she read.
Ellie: I wrote this book and I am the author.
Sigrid: A person who makes is the author.
Eloise: A person who writes the book is the author and the person who makes the pictures is the illustrator.
Mia: The author is like the designer of the story.
...then as Ellie read the book
Brady: Hey I know this book! It's like Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears.
Lauren: She changed it with different animals.
Ellie: I used pandas.
...and after she finished
Harlow: I want to finish a book too. I would like to read mine to the class. I will do mine about rainbows and me!
Theertha: I can make a book about ponies.
Harlow: We can make more stories like Goldilocks too.
Izzy: I would like to read mine to just a teacher.
