On Tuesday, some children noticed a few new cookbooks in the Blue Room. The cookbooks were filled with colorful illustrations and placed in the dramatic play kitchen area.
Harlow: Wow, look at that peacock! That's so beautiful and yummy looking. How could I make this?
Birk: That looks super yummy!
Lily: I like the rainbow cookies.
Mia: Oh those are pretty.
Izzy: I want to make one.
On Wednesday, Hattie and Harlow had an idea to make the rainbow cookies out of white clay. They used illustrations to guide their work with the clay. They started by rolling coils, shaping them into arches, and sticking them together. They waited for them to dry and revisited them at morning meeting today.
Katie: I have noticed that some children have been looking through our cookbooks. I wonder if anyone would like to share their ideas about how they have made the cookies and cakes from these books?
Harlow: We made these because we bake a lot in our kitchen. We made rainbows just like that (pointing to the cook book page) and we are going to paint them that color. We can make them for dramatic play!
Brady: You can make these things (pointing to clay pieces) like a cookie and you can even put something on the cookie.
Eloise: You can make a tootsie roll, if you split it apart.
Katie: These aren't sticking together and seem to be falling apart. I wonder if we need to add something?
Lily: We need to use glue.
