Several children expressed an interest in starting in the dramatic play area today, so Katie brought them inside to look at the space and talk about what they have played in the past and what they might like to play today. Together they set the stage and made a plan.
Izzy: We want to play wedding today.
Lauren: Yes, me too.
Birk: I want to be the puppy at the wedding.
Zoe: I think I will be the writer and I will use this clipboard to show what we will do. I will draw the cake. We will also share this cake.
Katie: Are there items that you might need or does anything need to change in this area? How should we set it up so that it is ready for a wedding?
Izzy: Um, well we should move chairs over for the guests.
Lauren: We should put things away that we don't need, like the puppets.
Izzy: We could put the extra babies away. We will only need three today. There are three girls, so three babies.
Birk: We need to move the clothes rack, so people can read our signs. They say important things, like remember to be quiet.
Izzy: Oh and we really need the white dress and wedding clothes back out.
Birk: The puppies could wear the dog capes.
Lauren: The table needs to be ready for after the party.
Birk: What's a wedding without music? We need music!
Zoe: I will get the table ready and the cake.
Izzy: I will get the clothes. Birk that music is too sad. Can you switch it to a different song?
Birk: Sure, how about this one?
Izzy: Yep, that's perfect
Katie presented their plan at morning meeting and then the children played wedding.
