Snack: Apples and String Cheese Book: Flight School This morning some children visited the greenhouse at CHS. They were joined by students from a Biology class. They spent time together planting seeds, using the seeds as a pendant in a mini flower necklace, and watering the plants in the greenhouse. Children continued working in the studio. There were many things happening like, working with clay and wooden dowels, painting with oil pastels, and building with recycled materials and loose parts. ![]() Book: Tree Snack: teddy grahams & clementines We started this rainy Monday in the gym. Many children were excited to play with the scooters and worked to connect them together to form scooter trains! A black and white provocation was offered to the children this morning including panda bears and some new loose parts. Some children got to work adding blocks to create a home for the panda family. Zoe and Eloise helped Kath follow the recipe to make mud dough in the studio. Mia couldn't wait to touch it! Tara joined us for music at the end of our morning. We played our child created instruments and the bells today. We danced. We learned a new song about the rain and sang parts of it in Spanish! We also used the parachute for several songs and movement activities.
Snack: Strawberries and Goldfish Book: The Story of Beekle, The Unimaginary Friend Today, we read the story Beekle. Beekle was an imaginary friend that was never chosen by a child. He set off on an adventure to find a child who would choose him to be their imaginary friend. After, we read the book we discussed imaginary friends. What is an imaginary friend? Ellie: It's something not alive, but you can see it and it's a friend of yours. Who is your imaginary friend? Birk: My mockies and I just love them. Ellie: I love my lovie named Beary. He's my lovey and he's very special to me. Lauren: My lovey named Ellie. They are my stuffed animals. Lily: My blankey! I got it when I was a baby! Brady: A turtle. Izzy: I love my husky stuffed animal and I got him on my trip. Morgan: My imaginary friend is Optimus Prime. I love transformers! Harlow: My penguin is my imaginary friend. Eloise: I love my zebra. On one side it's striped and the other side is starred. Lucy: Lavender. It is my stuffed animal bunny. Images From Our Day Book: Frog & Toad Treasury-Dragons and Giants Snack: Pirate Booty & apple slices Our day began with a Gallery Walk through the Blue Room to see the things the children had created. The children so enjoyed being the guides! They showed grown-ups and younger siblings what they created. Then we read a book, had our snack, and it was time to head out to the high school for the Art Fair! ![]() Snack: Grapes and Nutrigrain Bars Book: What Will The Weather Be Like Today? by Paul Rodgers What do you notice about this space? Lucy: There is a stage. Eloise: We could use it for weddings! Sigrid: I think it's set up for music too. See the instruments we made. Someone could play the drums, while we get married! Eloise: I think there could be a performance too. Lily: It could be like a recital. Lucy: We could make signs, so children know where to play music and where to get married or perform. Eloise: We should also put something on the sign for kids to read. Sigrid: We need more costumes. Eloise: We need a camera. Lily: We could put binoculars on the chairs for the guest to get a better view of the stage. Eloise: I notice there's a table for the food after the wedding. Maybe we should get it ready? Sigrid: I think we are ready to set the stage to play. Can we start adding what we need? Lucy: Yes! Eloise: Let's see what we already have out too. Maybe some of it we do not need. Sigrid: Okay let's go! Snack: Pretzels and Clementines Book: We're in the Wrong Book The children have continued to play their drums throughout the day and teachers wondered where the children would want to keep their drums. We had a discussion of where to house the musical instruments and the common agreements of how to use them.
Where can we put them to play? Lucy: Dramatic play. Suzette: Dramatic play. Sigrid: Dramatic play. Birk: Dramatic play. Carly: Dramatic play. What are some agreements we should make about the drums? Sigrid: I think an agreement would be to ask someone first before playing their drum. Ellie: We can use a piece of paper and write our name. Birk: We can ask the teachers. Sigrid: Maybe the teachers don't know. Izzy: When we put it on the shelf we could ask a teacher if we could have it. Julie: Who do we need to ask? All: Our friends. Carly: We ask the children if we could borrow it and if the say yes, then you could play it. Birk: Everyone could make different ones. Ellie: I think we could write our names on them. Lucy: Or use a picture. Children brought their drums into dramatic play and used them as part of their play during small group time. ![]() Book: Frog and Toad Together Snack: veggie straws, clementines, & gogurt We noticed some things had changed in our Outdoor Classroom this morning. Morning Meeting 4/4/16 We noticed some changes in our outdoor classroom: Eloise: We noticed pill bugs! Brady: Me and my brother found some roly poly bugs and my Mom saw a worm. They were on the sidewalk. Sigrid: We had something different at our school. We can only dig in one place. Izzy: In the mud kitchen we dig in one spot. Lucy: The table was moved and the sign in sheet was somewhere else. On a plant stand. Carly: Inside the school there were little squares. Lily: There was a new hammock in the mud kitchen. Brady: Yeah! And it was green! Ellie: We saw a roly poly today. Teacher: What did you do on Saturday when you were here with your family? Hattie: I used the wheel barrow to get dirt from the big pile and then put it in the mud kitchen. Izzy: When me and Harry were rolling the green things(wheel barrows) we put water and mud in them. Thank you to our families who came out on the cold blustery day to beautify our space!! Our Music Educator, Tara joined us again. The children were excited to show her the instruments they made. ![]() Book: The Rainmaker by Barbara Tedd Snack: Dried Cherries and Pretzels Throughout the week several children designed a new play space, in the block area. They named it "The Autobot Base". There are several areas and modes of transportation, in which their characters travel and play. They have included smaller photos of themselves (taped onto blocks) and characters previously made for dramatic play. They have also made some transforming characters out of our Mobilo blocks too. ![]() Book: The Frog and Toad Treasury Chapter 3: The Lost Button Snack: Frozen Greek Yogurt and Goldfish Crackers Harlow: Lucy and I made this drum. It goes like this (demonstrates how to tap the top of it with the bottles).
Ellie: Me and Lauren made this drum and it goes like this (demonstrates by tapping the two connected drums with her fingers and palms). Sigrid: They look like bongos! Hattie: This is my drum (demonstrates by tapping the top of it with her palm). Harlow and Sigrid: Hattie you're good at that! Lauren: We made drums and that one is Birk's. He used a diaper box. Birk: It's a drum! Just like that you can make one and I made mine with Harlow. Harlow: You can always make one with another person. I also made this thing with a ribbon to dance with and move around. Lucy: I made one to dance with too. Brady: You can use the sticks, like drumsticks. Lily: Yes, drumsticks! Eloise: You can add ribbons to your sticks. Sigrid: I was thinking that same thing too. You could wrap ribbons around your sticks and drum them or dance with them. |
